It’s been a long time.

Haven’t made the time to blog in too long. Here’s something new. we’ve been busy retouching some BIG projects lately.
Shot this a month or two ago. Built a rain machine and off we went. LIGHTS camera and action. Love the way the lights pick up the rain and texture of the water splashes against her skin.
Off to Hawaii tomorrow, can’t wait!

New Work: HEAT

I’ve been shooting lots in the studio lately.
Here’s something we shot recently. This was mostly an excercise in lighting, pushing the boundaries of what I had tried before and then adding a little bit extra. I shot a whole series and this is only one of the standout frames. One of the issues shooting under such controlled lighting is that many of the frames only differ almost imperceptivly in facial expression and framing, so it’s often difficult to choose a favourite! We had tried this same shot with a fan from the right but I really like the simple symmetry so in the end decided against it.It is composed of about 5 lights – can you guess where they are?
I really enjoy the studio in that all the gear is within easy reach and I can throw as much light around as I want, shaping it with grids, octaboxes, beauty dishes and all manner of reflectors. However, I often feel it lacks atmosphere and a sense of place. In this shot I added a background element to provide some interest and depth to otherwise stark surroundings – the image being more conceptual than something based in reality.
I have a huge backlog of shoots to process, so stay tuned for more uploads throughout the next few weeks.
New Work: Derelict
Posted by Dean Bradshaw | Filed under Portfolio
I’ve called this series derelict, but every time I say it to myself in my head, I imagine the voice of Mugatu (Will Ferrell) in Zoolander as he discusses his newest clothing line pronounced ‘dere-leect’.
We shot these a couple of weekends ago with the intention of telling some kind of story about the central character. It is still a work in progress, these initial frames establishing a sense of place more than anything. Nothing beats the eerie ambience of an abandoned house, especially when halfway through shooting we were interrupted by a stray homeless man as he went about his day.

Desert Rose

New portfolio work shot yesterday evening. This concept is what happens when you’re stuck in suburbia for any length of time and musings of scented Chai tea and bustling markets enter your mind – I think I’m going to self diagnose myself with ‘wanderlust’.

I’ve been playing with the concept of a street fighter themed shoot for a while now. Last week I brought it into fruition with a series of images shot on location deep in the dark underbelly of Perth City…

I’ve been working hard lately to diversify my portfolio, producing work inspired by the drama and action of cinema films.
This is the latest series, dubbed for now as “Street”.
